A few things happen when you find out that you are HIV positive. For me, one of the biggest things was realizing that my lifestyle would have to change. Not only did I have to take ARVs, use protection etc. But I also had to make it a point to take care of my body. After all, HIV above all else messes up your immune system, which is the thing that stops you from getting sick. With that in mind I had to make some lifestyle changes pretty early on after finding out about my statues.
As someone who has lived a fairly healthy life, I was interested in how I could do better. So with a new responsibility on my shoulder, I decided to do my research. One of the first things I learnt was that I needed to be more active. Whilst I have not always loved working out. I now had to do it in order to keep my mind clear and my body healthy. Over the years I have found different workouts to try and slowly I have come up with a rhythm that suits me. Whilst most people who are HIV positive focus mainly on diet, which, don’t get me wrong, is also important. Most forget to just move.
Whether its playing a team sport or going for a brisk walk, working out has given me control of my body in ways I never thought possible. So no matter what my schedule looks like, or how tired I feel, I do my best to just get out and move. Which is something we should all be doing more of HIV positive or not.
