Editor’s Letter: Growing pains
Hi GirlZ. It’s me again. I can’t believe it has been two weeks since I wrote my last editors letter. So much has happened in the past few weeks that has all of us here at GirlZtalk thinking. First of all, GirlZtalk, is really growing. Not only is our community of writers and experts growing, but so are our readers. It feels like just yesterday that we had 7000 readers and now we have over 45000, which is a huge achievement for us. With more readers and more writers comes bigger responsibilities and opportunities all of which we are ready and able to take in our stride. There is so much planned for you ladies over the next few months and I for one am excited.
So lets talk about this month. With the peak of violence on women sweeping across South Africa, a lot of us, were feeling frustrated. Sure, this was not the first time women’s safety was a major concern. But for the first time in a long time, we realized how unsafe we actually are. Which is why we thought it was important to change our Facebook and mobi site banner with the hashtag #NoSilenceForViolence. Whilst there are a lot of hashtags going around, we thought it was important to emphasize the importance of speaking out. Because as women we have been, or know of someone who has been attacked, physically, emotionally or psychologically by a man. This is not to say men don’t experience abuse either. But as a woman living in South Africa, the chances are high for us.
One of our writers Gugu chose to write about just this in her article on dating. Because even a date can become dangerous. I took a different route in this months articles by writing about healing when I shared how music can be a healing tool. And of course Nokhanya reminded us that we can stay warm whilst being energy conscious. So whether you are healing from the national trauma. Or just trying to stay warm this winter, we have you covered. Until next time.
Love & light,
Editors letter: Setting your intentions
Ladies, winter is officially here. I know that most of us just want to use this time as a excuse to sleep and be lazy. But this is the perfect time to do catch up on all the admin and things you need to do. Things that the hot summer sun and all that it has to offer does not allow. Maybe try clean out your closet, or volunteering at a charity. This winter I hope to get more organized. From doing all my filing in my office to cleaning out my closet and fixing all my old clothes that are torn or too big.
Winter is not only a great time to relax and be indoors but it is also a great time for setting intentions. With the year already a quarter of the way through it is the perfect time to check if you are on track with your goals and what more you can do. Here at GirlZtalk we have been thinking a lot about how to improve ourselves during this period. Take our fashion and beauty experts article on going natural, or Lerato our resident relationship gurus advice on things to do indoors this winter.
So whether you realize you need to save more, as our new studying and work writer Emily suggests. Or maybe you want to use this winter to explore your sexual side in like our other new sex and sexuality writer Mmantsha suggests, or maybe you just want to take this time to de-stress. May is the perfect time for that.
Until next time ladies, wishing you a wonderful few weeks ahead.
Love & Light Phindile
Editors letter: Introduction
Hi GirlZ. My name is Phindile Sithole-Spong and I am the editor of GirlZtalk.mobi and all its social media platform’s. Together with the GirlZtalk team of writers, we work on bringing you the best content possible to help you navigate this tricky and sometimes scary thing called life.
When I first came to GirlZtalk, just over a year ago now, I had lots of ideas that I wanted to share and bring to you ladies, our dedicated readers. This included changing our mobi site format, the type of content we produced and the inclusion of videos.
As someone who has always enjoyed reading blogs and learning from them, it was important that GirlZtalk became that for you. A place to learn, be inspired and above all else find tools to help with everything from navigating relationships to finding new ways to work out and think about your body.
As women, we go through so much pressure to act a certain way that it can be overwhelming. Which is why we didn’t want to tell you what to do, but simply share what we were doing. Give insight into our experiences, from our own discussions we have at our monthly meetings and even from our personal lives.
Today GirlZtalk is not just a space to read articles but also see what other women are doing in our “Women In Business” segments, a place to have live chats with other users through our chat group, a place to ask questions to our writers as well as each other as well as a place to come and get answers to those questions our family, friends and even teachers can’t or won’t answer.
Questions like whether or not you should have sex in your relationship, like our relationship expert Lerato recently shared. Or how to be environmentally friendly by switching to Eco-friendly body products like our resident “caring for your world” expert Nokhanya showed us.
One of the newest and latest additions to the mobi site is that of trained health specialist Debbie Chia, who will be sharing with us all some important health news and things we should know. After all, what’s better than getting advice on health issues than from someone who works in the field?
So as we continue to grow and learn together, we hope, you will continue to push us to deliver better content and create a space that you see not as a GirlZtalk space but as YOUR space. Till next time GirlZ. Have a wonderful week ahead and feel free to leave me any questions or concerns here and I will get back to you.
Love and light,
