RIP Mam Winnie

On Easter Monday we received the sad news of the passing of South African Heroine Winnie Madikezela Mandela. Mam Winnie as she was affectionately know she passed away at the age of 81. As a young woman Mam Winnie earned a degree in social work and landed a job at a Johannesburg hospital. Shortly afterwards she met Nelson Mandela, a much-older lawyer. Most people believe that he was the one who stirred in her a passion for politics. Which saw her fight for black people and particularly black women during apartheid.

Our nation has lost a heroine, a mother of our nation, that fought for freedom in an era where freedom seemed far away. And was on the front lines at the time former president Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. During this time Mam Winnie was constantly going in and out of prison, being tortured and interrogated by the white police. And whilst she is not without her critiques and faults. She  forever be remembered for her sacrifices and dedication to the idea of freedom for black people. We thank you for the role that you have played the sacrifices, struggles and pain that you have gone through was not In vein. Your legacy will continue to Live on Qawekazi siyabonga comrade.
