The minister of health announced a few weeks ago that there had been traces of a bacteria found at Tiger brands factories in Limpopo and Germiston. The deadly bacteria, known as listeria was found in Enterprise and Rainbow processed meats. These meats include polony, russians, vienna’s and ham.
To date the bacteria listeria is known to have killed 180 people. With reports indicating that little children, pregnant women and people with weak immune systems like people who have HIV, cancer, diabetes and also elderly people are at high risk of this contracting this bacteria. Which is why if you or your family have any of these products you should return them and/or throw them away. Even if you bought the products after the outbreak. After all, it is better to be safe than sorry. Especially with a deadly bacteria like listeria which has no known cure.
Health authorities also advise anyone with any of the above mentioned products to clean you fridge. To ensure that the bacteria doesn’t transfer onto your other foods. To make sure your fridge is throughly clean, use bleach and warm water. If you think that you or a loved one has been infected, it is important to see a health professional as soon as possible. Symptoms may include nausea, fever, diarrhea and muscle aches.
