Frequent urination is the urge you get to suddenly go to the bathroom more often than usual. Whilst this can sometimes be due to high water intake, if the problem persists consider there may be a deeper underlying reason. Here are some reasons for frequent urination:

  • Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is the common cause of frequent urination. This causes  bacteria to enter the bladder through the urethra. The urethra is the tube that connects the urinary bladder to the outside of the body. There are a number of reasons which could be the cause for you to frequently need to urinate and so it is best to go to the doctor ASAP to checkout. Most  UTIs are easily treatable and the sooner they are checked, the quicker the treatment time will be.

Other causes for frequent urination can include:

  • Cystitis
  • Diabetes
  • Conditions affecting muscles, nerve and tissues
  • Dehydration
  • Use of antibiotics that eliminate good bacteria.
  • Injury
  • Cancer and certain cancer treatments e.g chemotherapy
  • An overactive bladder

So ladies, if you are going to the bathroom more than usual, I would suggest seeing chemist to get over the counter medication. If this doesn’t help then a meeting with a DR is your best bet. Not only will knowing what the problem is give you peace of mind, but it can also be treated as soon as possible. After all, the longer you leave it the more serious it can get. And when it comes to our bodies, knowing is better than not knowing.
