Self love: Why taking care of your health is important

We live in a world where women lead busy lives and often we forget to look after ourselves. Taking time out for yourself is probably one of the best things you can do for yourself and the people around you. As a woman who is busy all the time I find it is important to practice self love often. This can mean saying no when I am tired and taking care of my health. Self-love also means being able to put yourself first without feeling guilty.

Part of loving yourself is also taking precautions regarding your health and body. This means making lifestyle choices that will lead to a longer and healthier life. This can include knowing things like your HIV statues, your cholesterol as well as other important health information. It may seem easier to avoid finding this out but knowledge is not only power but also empowering! When we know the facts we are better able to act and make changes that will give us a better quality of life today and in the future.

It is also important to remember that when detected early most illnesses are treatable. Which is why it is so important to not wait until it is too late. Furthermore, when getting checked out for illnesses such as HIV and diabetes which have life long consequences, remember that you are not alone. You don’t have to deal with the outcome on your own. There are numerous avenues where we can draw support from like family, friends, health professionals and organizations dealing with health issues.
Remember: Love and take care of yourself as there is only one of you!
